More than Just a Nutritional Assessment
When you eat well, you feel well. Eating well means eating whole foods as often as possible, and limiting your intake of junk foods such as processed deli meats or high-sugar, high-fat snacks. Whole food entails fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and if you eat meat, choose organic, grass-fed beef; free-range chicken, and wild (not farmed) fish.
They say when you teach a man to fish, you can feed him for a lifetime. Dr. Bob teaches patients to pay attention to the foods they are putting into their bodies by showing them how to shop for the right foods for their diets and lifestyles.
We’ve included a few tips on grocery shopping to ensure that you can get the healthiest foods possible for your budget. Since PLU numbers are universal, you can tell organic produce from a GMO product to one sprayed with pesticides, simply by looking at the PLU number:
Sometimes, food additives like wax or petrolatum coatings are added to fruits and vegetables to make them more attractive. If you are allergic or wary of certain food additives, there’s luck for you. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has stated that food additives in a final prepackaged product must be declared. So for products like bags of mixed fruit or vegetables, food additives must be listed in the ingredients or in a “Contains” statement.
This includes coatings of wax or petrolatum.
